The rediscovery of ancient native vines Emilio Bulfon was a strong advocate of the rediscovery and selection of certain ancient native Friulian vines. He recovered ancient grape varietes that, until about firthy years ago, seemed to have been lost, overwhelmed by undergrowth and human neglect, in the foothills near Pordenone.Historically, this has always been wine
country and Bulfon'sunic passion gave the varieties a new lease of life. He treated them with the respect worthy of archeological remains, and replanted them, whith advice from Expert Antonio Calò, director of the Istitute for Experimental Viticulture at Conegliano, and Ruggero Forti, a skilled ampelographer. In 1987, the provincial authority of Pordenone recognised Emilio Bulfon's labours of recovery and promotion with a gold medal.
After the experimental planting of twenty-four native Friulian vinesat a provincial estate, the autority joined with the Agricultural Initatives Committee of the Pordenone Trade Fair and the Institute of Oenology at Conegliano to publish the hitorical and scientific work, Dalle Colline Spilimberghesi Nuove Viti e Nuovi Vini (New Vines and New Wines from the Hills of Spilimbergo)...

The Label
The unmistakable label, designed by Bulfon himslef in so many chromatic versions as his wine varieties, reproduces a detail of “The Last Supper” from a medieval fresco dating back in the 13th century and being kept in the Santa Maria dei Battuti’s church in Valeriano village.
